Muy Caliente

Though the official start of summer is still a few days away, the heat has decided it cannot hold out any longer. The forecast for the entire week ahead shows triple digits with highs reaching 109 degrees! Temperatures haven't soared this high since the early '60s, so we're in for some near-record-breaking conditions in the Sacramento area.

I typically wimp out around 95, so I plan to be staying indoors with shorts on, AC blasting, and cocktail in hand. To celebrate the early arrival of summer, I've concocted a special treat that will keep you cool with just the right amount of...you guessed it...caliente for the season. Serve this up on its own in your favorite vintage collins glass, or pair it with some grilled steak fajitas. Better yet, make a pitcher and invite the neighbors over to ring in the summer. Don't forget the sunscreen. Cheers!
